Michael and his family appear in the 1850 census for New Harrison (Darke County, Ohio), at the bottom of the page. His occupation is listed as "shoemaker". (Frank's full name was Francis Marion, so he is listed as Marion.) Michael was born in 1813 in what was then Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jacob Stahl (1780-1854). Michael's brother, Simon, and cousin, Jacob, were also living nearby. They had all moved to Ohio at about the same time.
